The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie

Are you familiar with the pancake syndrome when making your chocolate chip cookies?  I completely am.  The taste of my cookies was always alright, but they left a lot to be desired in the aesthetics department- flat as a pancake.

In my search for new recipes, I came across one of my roommate's recipes I'd had since college (many moons ago).  I had forgotten I even had this recipe.  I remembered her making them when we lived together, and loving them.  I was so excited to give them a try.  Well, after the first try I was sold!  Thanks, Aubrey for solving my chocolate chip cookie crisis.  And to think I've had the recipe all these years!  These cookies not only stand taller than a pancake, they taste amazing!

I like to substitute 1 cup of oatmeal for 1 cup of flour.  My husband eats these cookies up, but often requests for the oatmeal to be left out.  You can try both ways and see which you prefer.  My husband (he's really not a picky eater, but is coming across as one in this post) also doesn't like nuts in much of anything, so I always leave them out, but I'm sure the nuts would be delicious!

These cookies are absolutely amazing hot out of the oven!!  They're great the next day, but you can't beat fresh from the oven.  I often make the dough, and then freeze part to pull out whenever we need it so we can enjoy the fresh from the oven taste more often.  Click here to print the recipe.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you found a little something worth your time.

  1. In my expereience where the cookie falls flat it means it needs more flour. So when I try a new recipe I cook 1 batch and then add more flour if they spread out and are too flat.

    1. Thanks for the great tip! After the first batch I'm usually frustrated, but it's nice to know I can save the other batches. Thanks so much for visiting. Have a great day!

  4. What a great feeling when you finally find the perfect recipe that you really like. I think that with my blog that is what I am trying to do. I have the perfect sugar cookie made with 10x sugar, also a ccc with cornstarch and 10x and the recipe you are using but mine only has 1/2 cup of white sugar that I just made this w/e not even posted yet. Your ccc's are beautiful. So what is the next best recipe you are in search for? I am working on sloppy joes! Found another one that I am going to try this week and then I will make my decision. Homemade or the sloppy joe in the box!!!! Have fun come visit sometime. Andi thewednesdaybaker

  5. Something you might try with the oatmeal is to put into a food processor/blender and blend to flour consistency. It gives you the flavor while having more of a traditional cookie texture. Your husband may appreciate it. :)
