Shaving Cream & Food Coloring Easter Eggs {Repost}

I saw a package of all white fake Eater eggs at Walmart several weeks ago, and thought I needed them (white is becoming my favorite color these days), but resisted buying them because I really didn't know what to do with them.   Until... just the other day I somehow got thinking about the eggs again, and how the shaving cream and food coloring art activity we've done before could be the perfect match for the eggs!

I picked up a package (they were under $2 for a dozen) of the eggs, and my four-year-old and I decided to give it a try.  I wasn't sure if the food coloring would stick to the eggs (they aren't plastic, they're more papery than plastic) but it totally did.  We even tried it on one of our real chicken eggs, and it worked on that as well!

I have all the instructions here for doing the shaving cream and food coloring.  Basically, you'll spread a layer of shaving cream in a small cookie tray, drop drops of food coloring in the shaving cream, swirl the colors slightly with a popsicle stick, and then roll, or kind of stamp each part the egg in the colorful shaving cream.  When we do the shaving cream and food coloring art with paper, we usually scrape the excess shaving cream off with a popsicle stick, but for the eggs, we just wiped it off gently with a paper towel.

Like I mentioned, we had a dozen of these eggs, and they went way too quickly.  It's so much fun experimenting with the different colors on each egg.  And our hands were as colorful as the Easter eggs when we were done.  But all part of the fun!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you found a little something worth your time.

DIY Glittered Marshmallow Bunnies {Repost}

So, here I am once again glittering food.  This strange habit started last year when I painted and glittered a chocolate bunny, then glittered some dollar store cookies for Halloween ornaments.  This year it's migrated to marshmallows.  Hearts in February, and now just in time for Easter- bunnies!

I just couldn't help myself when I saw these adorable bunny marshmallows at Walmart several weeks ago.  I had to buy them, and the glittering them up was the next obvious step- at least for me.

The bunny marshmallows came in pale yellow, pink, green, and purple.  I loved the colors so much (except for the purple, for some reason once the glitter hit the purple marshmallow, the color didn't work at all for me) that I didn't want to cover them up too much.  So, I used an iridescent  embossing tinsel (the one I used here on my chocolate bunny) to sprinkle on the marshmallows after I'd sprayed them with spray adhesive.  The embossing tinsel gave the perfect amount of sparkle to the beautiful colors without drowning them out.

Aren't they sweet?  I'm in love!  You can click here for more details on how I glittered my hearts, which is exactly how I glittered my bunnies.  It basically involves sticking the marshmallows on a toothpick, spraying them with spray adhesive, and then sprinkling the glitter over them.  Not hard  at all!  And adorable results!

These glittery little bunnies would be perfect for toppers on cupcakes, table scatter, displayed in a glass jar, strung together for a garland (let the bunnies sit out for a few days and harden before attempting to string them), or whatever else you can come up with.  Endless possibilities!

Printable Chalkboard Easter Banner {Repost}

Last weekend I went to our storage unit, and pulled out my Easter boxes.  I ran across this banner I made a few years ago for a guest post at Someday Crafts.  Often times, after a few years of the same holiday decor, I get a bit tired of it and want to switch it up a bit.  But this banner, is still a favorite!!  The chalkboard, the lettering, and the beautiful framed design are timeless to me.  I'll be using this one for many years to come!

Peter Cottontail's Tail {DIY Pom Poms}

I find myself buying yarn often in hopes of making lots of pom poms, but truth be told, I've really only made one set of them in my entire life.  They turned out just how I'd wanted, and they were really easy to make.  I'm not sure why I don't make them more often.

A few winters ago, I shared some winter ornaments I'd made for my white January tree.  As I was putting them away this year, it hit me that the white pom poms I'd hung on the tree would make the perfect tail for Peter this Easter.   So when I was getting out my Easter decor, I went back to my winter tote, pulled one of the pom poms out,  fluffed it up a bit, trimmed it down, and hot glued it to a bunny silhouette (click here for the one I used).

You can click here for my DIY winter ornament post.  I have several ornaments, but the pom poms I made and used for the cottontail were made using Bernat Boa yarn in Dove, and I followed this Martha Stewart video: How To Make Mini Yarn Pom Poms.  Really simple!

The bunny silhouette I used came from Matthew Mead.  He actually used a white carnation for the tail, and I love that look as well.  Check out his entire white Easter collection on Pinterest here.  So, so gorgeous!!

So, what are your Easter plans?  An egg hunt or two, family time,  enjoying the beauties of spring, and lots of candy?  That's what we'll be up to.  Enjoy this special holiday!

Printable Bunny Banner

Apparently I'm in a bit of a printable creative slump because I'm here with another banner.  If you were here last week, then you know I shared an Easter egg banner.  I really do love banners, and this sweet little bunny makes this one absolutely adorable, so all is not lost.

I found this simple bunny image on PicMonkey (in their 'Ordinary Beasts' Overlay) awhile back, and have been in love with it ever since.  I knew I wanted to use it for some type of Easter decor, and a banner seemed to be the perfect fit.

I made a collage of the bunny banner pieces with four images on one page.  A good-sized banner should only take two to three pages.  Two to three pages is nothing, but when I want a really good quality printing job I always email my images to my local UPS store to have them printed out.

Online Bible Easter Videos

As much as I love all the food, crafts, decor, and festivities of the holidays, the deeper meaning of Easter (and Christmas) means a lot more to me.  I thoroughly enjoy the fun of the secular part of holidays, but it's the spiritual side that makes me who am I, do what I do, and believe what I do.

So, today I share an amazing resource for some touching video clips you can use with your family during this special week leading up to Easter Sunday.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a website I'm sure many of you have heard about (lds.org).  They have, in my opinion, the most touching series of bible videos anywhere!  I love watching them, and they actually really capture my boys' attention (their latest favorite being The Good Samaritan).  I love how quite and simple the videos are.  Not a lot of talking, but it's not needed.  You feel what you need to feel without it.

I have quite a few video links here.  You'll find the actual resurrection videos at the end, but I included all the videos they offer of the days before the Savior's death and resurrection.

Just in time for Easter The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is also sponsoring a "Because of Him" campaign.  You can click the image below to view a short clip of what His suffering and resurrection mean to each of us.  My everyday life is more meaningful, and hopeful.  I know I'll see and be with my family and loved ones again someday, even after we've left this earthly life.  I also know I can start new again, be forgiven when I fall, and never feel defeated.

I hope you'll take the time to view, if not all, just a few of these videos.  The I know they'll touch your heart, and bring the true meaning of Easter to life.
